This a video is on the German “Mardi Gras” (called “Fasnacht,” “Fasnet” or “Karnival” in German). With the 500-year history, there are amazing and amusing scenes from Lake Constance in Switzerland to Germany’s Black Forest villages of Villingen, Oberndorf, Gengenback, Elzach and Rottwell.
This video is presented in the true spirit of Fasnacht – costumes, fun, parties, and frolics through the streets of various towns. People dress in costumes representing their dream characters – be it king, queen, jester, or fictitious person from novels or myths. Historically they were given the freedom to mimic or poke fun at everyone including all those in authority. Some antics are truly hilarious.
